What are we trying to achieve?
A great shave while minimising unwanted effects to the skin. It’s important to understand that there are many reasons why shaving presents a bunch of challenges.
That hair shape, thickness / stiffness and emergent angle affect our shave has been long understood. However, we must also recognise the male skin’s tendency to heal slower and to sensitivity.
A hair follicle is a sensory organ and the skin surrounding a hair follicle - perifollicular skin - is extremely responsive to stimuli, being well-supplied with blood, immune cells to protect it and nerve fibres which combine to make it reactive, inflammatory and thus easily prone to irritation.
Dehydration and these protection systems over-reacting to shaving cause the redness, swelling and ingrowns.

What actually causes razor bumps?
Razor bumps - clinically known as pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB) - happen when a hair pierces the follicle wall and / or when hairs curl back into the skin instead of growing straight out. Most shave routines address none of the underlying causes.
Prep failure 1
What happens
Dirt and dead skin block follicle openings. Bacteria colonise the area. The blade drags across contaminated skin - triggering inflammation before a single hair is cut.
How mode fixes it
Pre-Shave Cleanser removes debris and uses antimicrobial coconut oil to suppress bacterial load before the blade touches skin. Oat silk antioxidants calm the surface while avocado emollients keep pores hydrated - not stripped.

When the perifollicular area becomes dehydrated the hair becomes dry with damaged cuticles and the skin around the follicles may be:

Blade drag
What happens
Multi-blade cartridges promise a smoother shave but are actually causing a world of post-shave pain to many with sensitive skin. This is because their lift-and-cut action tugs at the hair before cutting it. The effect is to pull the hair out of its follicle then cut it multiple times so that when the hair retracts it drops beneath the surface thus creating the perfect conditions for razor bumps.
How mode fixes it

Recovery is inadequate and slow
What happens

Apricot kernel oil
Lightweight oil that softens the hair shaft, reducing resistance against the blade and cutting friction.
Avocado oil
Oleic acid penetrates deep into the follicle, calming inflammation before it triggers a bump response.
Coconut oil
Lauric acid calms inflammation at the skin surface - one of the primary drivers of razor bumps and post-shave irritation.
Oat silk
